The Arab Bank for Development in Africa (BADEA) and the Republic of Ghana signed, on Friday, October 18, 2019, in Washington, on the sidelines of the meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, held from October 14 to 20, an agreement by which the Bank grants the Republic of Ghana a loan in the amount of 13,500 million dollars, intended to contribute to the financing of the basic education support project in five regions. This falls within the framework of development relations between the Bank and Ghana and within the framework of strengthening Arab-African cooperation.
The project aims to support and improve basic education, so that it plays its part in strengthening the education sector in general in Ghana. The project will contribute to this through the increase of 44 schools, which will give a better opportunity to poor and rural populations to access education, increase the demand for education, ease the pressure on overcrowded classes, improve the quality education, reduce gender inequalities in access to education, reduce absenteeism and encourage school retention.
The project will work to implement the Government’s program to develop and expand basic education opportunities in the country.
The agreement was signed, on behalf of the Bank, by H.E. Eng. Yousef Ibrahim Al-Bassam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BADEA and for the Republic of Ghana, by HE. Ken Awfori Ata, Minister of Finance
